Want to visit a cool medieval city? Try York, England!

Updated: Jun 14, 2020

A beautiful yet haunted medieval city known as The City of York Walls...

A walk down old Shambles Street

York is a well preserved medieval city in Northeast England with overhanging Timber-framed buildings dating back as far as the 14th century. Definitely a day well spent and worth the trip for us while exploring the UK. The main historic attractions can be seen in a single day, but you can easily spend hours between the Shambles Market and The Shambles Street alone. The cities surrounding buildings are very well preserved and with feelings and vibes like you are in the medieval ages. Take a stroll down Shambles Street and walk through a Harry Potter film inspired site for Diagon Alley, along with wizard shops like "The Shop That Must Not Be Named". Keep on venturing and you will see pubs and boutique shops and you can't miss a chocolate shop or two or three! York's chocolate-making history dates back almost 300 years, and at one point in time, more then 14,000 people were employed in the city's famous chocolate factories. Do not leave York without trying some of their Chocolate!

York is considered by many as the most haunted city in Europe. The city offers many haunted tours you can take or just walk into one of many haunted places like the "Golden Fleece"

built in 1502. It is considered as the most haunted pub in York, with up to 15 ghost haunting this pub! We stopped to have a pint of beer here and noticed there is much history inside this pub, feels old and creepy but very cool! The pub has a very friendly staff with a good selection in beer and food. A great place for a pit stop when exploring York.

Upon arrival to York, you will see the Roman Walls built around 71 AD when founded by the Romans known as the City of York Walls. You can walk the surrounding walls for free and walk around the city with spectacular views and it wasn't too crowded in the summer months. The main historic sights are all within walking distance, like York Minster one of the largest cathedrals of its kind in Northern Europe, and of course York Castle known as Clifford's tower which sits up top a hill in the center city. Not too far away you can stroll over to the York Museum Gardens to relax and enjoy it's beautiful landscapes or just hang chill and people watch like we did!

Before Leaving York, besides trying the chocolate, they have one of the best, if not the best bacon and sausage Butty's in all of England in our opinion. Its the UK's standard breakfast sandwich, not the healthiest choice of course, but its not everyday you are in York, so why not splurge a little! York, you are awesome!

York is a city in England which is known as Walled City. It was discovered by the ancient Romans. It has many historical places to try and have an informative time. I have visited it before my https://www.goldenbustours.com/grand-canyon-tours/ and River Ouse is my favorite there due to its walkways.
