Wander through Setenil de las Bodegas - Spain

Updated: Jun 14, 2020

A Spanish town with whitewashed houses built into the beautiful surrounding rocky cliffs.

Located in southern Spain in the Cádiz province is an amazing town built deep into the cliffs surrounding the region. Setenil de las bodegas is a town that can be explored in a day. Only a two hour drive from the city of Cádiz, you can actually stop here on the way to Ronda if your are traveling from Cádiz and kill two birds with one stone. You only need a few hours to cover the town and have lunch, or just stay for dinner and drinks if you fall in love with this place, we did! This is one of the best places in Spain for pictures with houses tucked deep into the rocky cliffs running across the homes roofs providing ceilings for the homes.

Explore deeper into the towns streets and enjoy the scenery along the way. The neighborhood birds will be chirping along the way echoing off the rocky cliffs. You can feel like you ventured too far into the town but you eventually come to another part of the town with more tapas bars and usually where the locals are having Cañas and dinning on Rabo de Toro which is a Spanish oxtail stew that is slow cooked with meat falling off the bone, infused with red wine, garlic, and thyme aromas! Yum! I missed the picture on this one because we inhaled it when we ordered it! sorry! I'll get pics next time around.

If you decide to stay the night cause you found yourself having one too many Cañas or glasses of wine, there is hotels available in the area like Casa rural La Roca de Setenil and a few other we saw while there. We will definitely be returning in the late fall so we will be updating this blog on any new sights we run into upon returning.

We will leave you with this view of Setenil de las Bodegas

Til next time!
