How the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill is done in 24 hrs.

Updated: May 4, 2020

One of my favorite cities in all Europe!

Roman Colesseum

Originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre

On our first visit to the Colosseum, we chose to venture on our own rather than a guided tour. We purchased tickets right outside the main entrance, but you can also purchase tickets in advance directly through Colesseum or TripAdvisor. The ticket includes entry to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill as well, so you are definitely getting lots for your buck. Guided tours can be worth it sometimes for certain destinations where you need to cover lots of ground between historical landmarks. But for these three sites being within steps of each other, you can enjoy all three in a day or even half a day. We do recommend you try and use the restroom prior to arrival, as the lines for the restrooms on site can be very long at times.

Palatine Hill

The Palatine Hill is the centremost of the Seven Hills of Rome and is one of the most ancient parts of the city. I would like to advise when visiting this site to be sure to wear a pair of comfy walking shoes as your walking through mostly gravel and dirt. Maybe even take an older pair, preferably dark colored shoes would be best. I learned the hard way by taking a brand new pair of all white tennis shoes, by the end of our walk they were filthy. Take your time and enjoy the hike up, it's worth every step, when you get to the top, you will see the view was well worth the hike. My 70 year old mother did this hike so it's totally doable, as there are many different routes and pathways that are not so steep.

Another great wonder that you must experience when walking through the Roman Forum and through out Rome in itself are these drinking fountains called Nasone which means "Big Nose", you can see why....

Nasone

"IS THIS WATER SAFE TO DRINK"?

You can drink this water at your own risk or once you do your own research and feel better about it for yourself drinking it! But what I do know is that I do not know one person in Rome that I have not asked if they have drank that water before and they respond with a dramatic face like "Yes! for the millionth time!" As most if not all do drink it. It is said to be totally safe as the water flowing through these drinking fountains comes directly from the mountains and is said to be part of Rome's regulated drinking water system. Don't hold me to it, but I drink this water every time I am in Rome and I am still breathing. It's pure, fresh spring water so your good to fill up your water bottle or tumbler like the locals do everyday.

Roman Forum

Surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center city of Rome. Originally known as a market place, for centuries the Forum was the life and heart of Rome. Today, the Roman Forum is one of the most famous tourist sites in the world, attracting more than 4.5 million people annually.

Remember when in Rome do your thing!
